
ArmInfo. The Anti-Corruption Court of Armenia has accepted the claim of the Prosecutor General's Office on confiscation of property of illegal origin from the former head of the Main Department of State Security of the RA Police Roma Mkrtumyan.
According to the supervisory authority, the following are subject to confiscation from Mkrtumyan and persons affiliated with him in favor of the Republic of Armenia: 1 residential building located in the Erebuni administrative district of Yerevan, the market value of 1 vehicle and more than 415 million drams.
Roma Mkrtumyan was appointed head of the Main Department of State Security of the Police of Armenia on November 15, 2011. He held this position until April 7, 2015.
A criminal case has also been initiated against Mkrtumyan. In particular, since August 2023, the Anti- Corruption Criminal Court has been considering a case of embezzlement. As a result of security activities, funds in an especially large amount were received from business entities and not credited to the off-budget account. The preliminary investigation body established that without transferring funds to the off-budget account of the department, in order to conceal the fact of theft, with the assistance of the accountant of the department, reports On the formation of off-budget funds of the institution, expenses and debt were falsified. They included false information that the said business entities allegedly did not pay or did not pay in full the rent stipulated by the concluded agreement, after which the said reporting documents were signed and put into circulation.
According to the indictment, with the assistance of a group of persons consisting of individual business entities, a theft of an especially large amount (about 9 million 452 thousand drams) was committed. It was noted that of this amount, the amount actually appropriated by Roma Mkrtumyan was about 4 million 918 thousand drams, which is equivalent to 11,900 US dollars
