ArmInfo.Servicemen serving compulsory military service will be eligible for additional compensation upon transitioning to contract service in the Armenian Armed Forces. The RA government approved the compensation amounts at its meeting on May 27.
According to the rationale for the government decision, a serviceman currently receives 1.5 million drams upon transfer from compulsory to contract service with their first two-year contract, and 5 million drams for a five-year contract. It is now proposed to extend this provision to the second and each subsequent contract.
Furthermore, the transition period from compulsory to contract service is being shortened. Currently, a conscript can become a contract serviceman after six months of service. Now, this period has been reduced to four months. This proposed measure is aimed at further enhancing the attractiveness of service under the "Defender of the Fatherland" program and the ability to retain contract service members in the future.
