ArmInfo. A total of 62 individuals are accused of distributing election bribes during the Vagharshapat Community Council of Elders elections in Armenia's Armavir Province. This was reported in a statement by the RA Anti-Corruption Committee.
As emphasized in the statement, as a result of extensive measures, factual evidence was obtained indicating that a group of individuals intended to provide election bribes to secure votes during the elections. To carry out their criminal plan, they recruited individuals, primarily members of the Republican Party of Armenia, who had extensive connections and numerous acquaintances in society. As a result, more than fifty people were promised election bribes of 50,000 drams each, on the condition that they vote for the Rodina party candidate. To complete the crime and gain complete control over the process, the group members clearly assigned roles, compiled lists of bribed voters, and maintained telephone contact with them on election day. Searches of the group members' homes revealed and seized documents containing handwritten notes on individuals who accepted the offer of election bribes and those who assisted in their payment, as well as voter lists.
Criminal cases have been opened against 62 individuals, some of whom have pleaded guilty and confessed. Proceedings against some of the defendants have been dismissed. The case has been sent to court with an indictment.
