On April 1, Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan met with representatives of diplomatic missions accredited to the Republic of Armenia and international organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. The purpose of the meeting was to present the progress of preparatory work for the COP-17 conference
According to the press service of the Ministry of Environment, this was the second meeting in this format, providing an opportunity to continue an open, inclusive, and effective dialogue with partners. Hambardzum Matevosyan presented the work accomplished to date and the steps ahead, emphasizing Armenia's full commitment to conducting the conference's organizational process based on the principles of transparency, full participation, and high ambitions. The Ministry's goal is to make COP-17 a turning point in the global agenda for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
In this context, the Minister also touched on recent international and legislative developments, including the results of the meetings held in Montreal and the ratification of the Nagoya Protocol, which provide an important foundation for the success of the conference.
During the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan highlighted the role of the Leaders' Summit preceding the upcoming COP-17 as a platform for strengthening high-level political commitment.
