ArmInfo. David Minasyan, an 18-year-old student, who was arrested for two months following the incident at St. Anne's Church involving Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, lost consciousness on his way to the Armavir Penitentiary Institution, as reported by lawyer Lusine Martirosyan.
"David Minasyan, before entering the Armavir Penitentiary Institution, lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital," lawyer Lusine Martirosyan wrote on her Facebook page. According to media reports, Minasyan was taken to the Vagharshapat Medical Center.
Recall, on April 1, an Armenian court ordered the pretrial detention of 18-year-old David Minasyan for two months. Investigators have charged him with offenses under Part 1 of Article 297 of the RA Criminal Code (hooliganism) and Part 3 of Article 452 of the RA Criminal Code (interference with the lawful official or political activities of an official), which carry a prison sentence of two to five years. The defense is planning to appeal the court's decision. The incident occurred on March 29 at St. Anne's Church on Palm Sunday. David's twin brother, Mikael, and public and political figure Gevorg Gevorgyan were also detained in connection with the incident. Based on the incident, the Investigative Committee of Armenia opened a criminal case against David Minasyan and Mikael Minasyan under Part 1 of Article 46-297 (assisting hooliganism) and Part 3 of Article 46-452 (assisting interference with the lawful official or political activities of an official).
A case was launched against Gevorg Gevorgyan under Part 1 of Article 46-297 (organizing hooliganism) and Part 3 of Article 46-452 (organizing interference with the lawful official or political activities of an official). On March 31, Gevorg Gevorgyan was released on bail of 5 million drams and remains under a travel ban. He does not admit his guilt. Mikael Minasyan was released and remains under a travel ban. Controversy surrounds the case as video footage circulated online appears to show a member of the Prime Minister's security detail striking David Minasyan in the face, causing him to fall and appear disoriented. Furthermore, critics have pointed to a legal contradiction in the charges. While the Investigative Committee is prosecuting the case as an interference with "official duties," Prime Minister Pashinyan has publicly stated on multiple occasions that he attends Sunday liturgy strictly as a private citizen and an ordinary parishioner of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
