ArmInfo. The title of the musical accompaniment for Armenian figure skaters Nikita Rakhmanin and Karina Akopova at the 25th Olympic Games has been changed following complaints from the Azerbaijani side. This was reported by The Guardian, citing a conversation with the International Skating Union (ISU).
The Armenian skaters were scheduled to perform to the composition "Artsakh" by Ara Gevorgyan. After reviewing the complaint and discussions with relevant stakeholders, the ISU made the change.
According to the musical registry published by the Union, the piece to be used for the Armenian skaters' performance is now listed as "Music by Ara Gevorgyan," without mentioning a specific title.
In its statement, the International Olympic Committee noted that the use of this composition would introduce a political message into the Olympic competitions and could violate the principles of the Olympic Charter, which require the political neutrality of the Games.
Akopova and Rakhmanin will compete in the short program qualification on February 15. The free skate qualification will take place on February 16.
