ArmInfo.  The military-political leadership of Artsakh is being held in Azerbaijan  not for crimes, but because of their origin and right to  self-determination, according to Erich Vontobel, a member of the  Swiss National Council.

"Armenian political hostages - almost all from Nagorno-Karabakh -  were kidnapped and held in Baku under sham trials. They are being  held not for crimes, but because of their origin and right to  self-determination. Their release is a prerequisite for peace  negotiations," the parliamentarian wrote on Twitter (X), accompanying  the post with a photo taken in the courtyard of the Artsakh  representative office in Yerevan, where a banner with photographs of  the NKR military-political leadership held in Baku is displayed.

On February 4, members of the Swiss National Council, Erich Vontobel  and Stefan Muller Altemath, and John Eibner, President of the human  rights organization Christian Solidarity International (CSI), visited  the building of the Permanent Representation of Artsakh to the  Republic of Armenia. The delegation was accompanied by  representatives of the same organization, Joel Veldkamp and Peter  Fuchs. They held talks with the NKR leadership.

On February 3, Christian Solidarity International (CSI) and the  Armenian Center for Political Rights (ARCPR) convened a press  conference in Yerevan to present the findings of their research on  the state of religious freedom and human rights in Armenia.

During the press conference, Swiss parliamentarian Erich Vontobel  stated that in Armenia, they say the Nagorno-Karabakh issue is  closed, but their view of reality is different. He emphasized that  the issue cannot be considered closed if the displaced persons have  not returned to their homeland. Vontobel added that the international  community has clearly stated that a crime has been committed. The  parliamentarian expressed his conviction that the return of displaced  persons from Artsakh must be an integral part of sustainable peace.  In conclusion, he emphasized that they would do everything in their  power.
