ArmInfo. The official opening ceremony of the new building for the Hamazgayin theater named after Sos Sargsyan took place in Yerevan. According to the government's press service, the ceremony was attended by RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who, accompanied by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan, toured the newly established facilities.
The construction of the new theater building, which began in 2019 based on a design by Isahak Nersisyan, was funded through both the private donors. Over 275 million drams were allocated from the state budget for the construction, reconstruction, and renovation of the theater building, of which 205 million drams were for the acquisition of property and equipment, while 70 million drams were designated for construction. The theater is equipped with a new stage, modern lighting and sound systems, necessary technical equipment and dressing rooms. The first floor houses a small stage for experimental performances, and the second floor features a main hall with a seating capacity of over 230 spectators.
The year 2026 marks the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Hamazgayin theater. Until then, the theater did not have its own separate building and was located on the premises of the Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Cinematography. The opening of the new theater building was marked by a production of Maurice Maeterlinck's play "The Miracle of St. Anthony."
