Military expert: Trump`s Board of Peace for Gaza - A new global  governance model and UN alternative

ArmInfo. The Board of Peace for Gaza, established by US President Donald Trump, represents a new format of international governance, where the rules of the game established after the 1945 Potsdam Conference (a meeting of the leaders of the USSR, the USA, and the UK to determine the post-war  world order following the victory over Germany - ed.) will be changed.  Military expert Hayk Nahapetyan expressed this viewpoint   in an interview with an ArmInfo correspondent, when commenting on Trump's announcement of the establishment of a  Board of Peace  for  Gaza.

The expert noted that the Council was created at a time when might  makes right, which is why the Trump administration is facing serious  criticism. In particular, in matters related to Greenland, the  situation in Venezuela, and possibly-in the near future-regarding  Canada (Trump raised tariffs on several Canadian goods, and the  Canadian military developed a model of a "hypothetical US military  invasion of the country and prepared a possible response" - ed.).  "Moreover, this criticism is justified, as the actions of the US  President and his administration can be seen as an attempt to seize  states by force or impose their own rules of the game," the expert  believes.

According to him, the creation of the Board in this sense is intended  to address criticism and introduce a new format of global governance.  At the same time, Nahapetyan believes that the Board of Peace,  designed to ensure stable peace in Gaza, could transform into an  alternative to the UN in the future. "It will most likely include  three permanent members-the US, Russia, and China-and many European  countries will likely refuse to join this format," Nahapetyan  believes. Furthermore, according to the expert, the establishment of  the Board of Peace could even have been agreed upon in advance with  Russia and China.

It's worth noting that US President Donald Trump previously invited  Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to join the Board of Peace  for Gaza. The Armenian Prime Minister accepted it. In this regard,  Nahapetyan called it obvious that the Armenian authorities are using  this invitation as a pretext for self- promotion. "It will be  presented as another 'achievement' of the prime minister, including  before the elections (scheduled for June 7, 2026 - ed.). However,  even under these circumstances, the US will not hesitate to use force  to advance its interests. And it doesn't matter how this invitation  is presented in Armenia - for instance, as another achievement of  Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. In reality, it will have no  connection with the real state of affairs. The US decides, the US  invites, but nothing more," the expert emphasized.

Regarding the contribution to the Board  (the administration of US  President Donald Trump is asking countries seeking a permanent seat  on the Board of Peace to contribute at least $1 billion - ed.), the  expert noted that this is a new burden for the Armenian people and  the country, but not for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Because, as  Nahapetyan noted, Pashinyan is in power today, and gone tomorrow. He  noted that in the current situation, the people of Armenia must  critically assess the situation. "The real threat is the decisions  made by the Armenian Prime Minister, as they shape the country's  domestic and foreign policy," Nahapetyan concluded.

Recall, Trump previously announced the formation  of the Board of  Peace  for Gaza. The White House announced on Saturday that the Board  includes US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump's special envoy  Steve Witkoff, the American leader's son-in-law, investor Jared  Kushner, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, World Bank  President Ajay Banga, and US Deputy National Security Advisor Robert  Gabriel.  According to Bloomberg, the Trump administration is asking  countries seeking a permanent seat on the Board of peace to  contribute at least $1 billion.  US President Donald Trump also  invited Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to join the  Board of  Peace  for Gaza.  The Armenian Prime Minister accepted it. As ArmInfo  reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President  Ilham Aliyev, and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also  received invitations. In turn, the official representative of the  Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guo Jiakun, stated that  "Regardless of how the international situation develops, China will  firmly uphold the international system based on the UN, the  international order based on international law, and the basic norms  of international relations based on the goals and principles of the  UN Charter."
