Kristina Vardanyan:  Following  heavy snowfall, 117  hospitalized in  Yerevan due to  municipality`s inaction

ArmInfo.  From December 31 to January 8, 117 people sought emergency medical care  for injuries  at medical facilities under the jurisdiction of the Yerevan municipality alone. Kristine Vardanyan, a member of the Yerevan  Council of Elders and an associate professor at Yerevan State Medical  University, shared this information on her Facebook page.

She stated that she had contacted the Yerevan mayor asking for  information on the number of snowfall- related injuries over the past  week. "Today I received a response: in fact, 117 injured people have  been registered in municipally run medical institutions alone, 63 of  whom are of retirement age. Who should a Yerevan resident fine? Who  will cover the treatment costs?" she wrote.

She added that according to the official response from the Yerevan  Municipality, based on a report received from the Yerevan  Municipality Health Department, from December 31, 2025 to January 8,  2026, the total number of people who sought medical treatment for  injuries at Yerevan municipally run medical institutions is 117.

"The age groups of the injured are: ages 0-18-7, ages 19-40-27, ages  41-60-20, and  ages over 60-63. And this is only at city run medical  institutions," Vardanyan noted.  She shared a photo showing the  municipality's official response and one of the victims injured by  the icy conditions on the capital's streets.  "The elderly man in the  photo had come to Yerevan for a heart transplant, but ended up in the  hospital with a fractured pelvis. I spoke with him personally, and  his family has covered the expenses," Vardanyan added.

It's worth noting that Yerevan City Hall has once again been caught  off guard by another snowfall. Despite the snowfall occurring during  the holidays and with light traffic on the capital's roads, the  municipality not only failed to fulfill its obligations properly but  also attempted to shift responsibility to businesses.  Moreover, the  snow that fell on the night of January 13-14 has once again caused a  collapse in Yerevan. In many administrative districts of the city,  sidewalks and courtyards are icy, and secondary roads are also in  poor condition. Condominiums claim that Yerevan Municipality hasn't  provided them with sand or salt to maintain the plots under their  control. The municipality claims the opposite, and as a result, the  taxpayer suffers once again.
