ArmInfo. In search of a historical homeland, some may find it in Altai. This opinion was expressed by Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan on November 3, commenting on Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's statements that "there is no Lake Sevan on historical maps, but Lake Goycha." Aliyev also mentioned that Azerbaijanis living in the Armenian SSR "should return there not with tanks, but in cars."
"Essentially, there's nothing to add to this, except that such statements don't follow the existing logic of bilateral relations," Simonyan stated.
According to the Armenian speaker, such statements are intended for a domestic audience, and commenting on them is a thankless task. At the same time, Simonyan added, he didn't see any calls for the "liberation" of these occupied territories in these statements. "On the contrary, I saw that he was talking about returning in cars, not tanks," he noted.
In response to the question of what Aliyev meant by "there is no Lake Sevan on historical maps, but Lake Goycha," Alain Simonyan replied: "So, when we talk about the return of Karabakh residents to their homes, we're talking about tanks? Is it normal for Karabakh residents to return?"
