
ArmInfo. Hambardzum Matevosyan, the Minister of Environment of Armenia, held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Netherlands Marieke Harriet Monroe-Winter to discuss potential areas of cooperation of mutual interest.
As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Environment of Armenia, the meeting focused on effective water resource management issues, including water quality control and the implementation of innovative solutions in the context of climate challenges. The parties also discussed issues related to waste sorting and recycling.
The Minister presented the extended producer responsibility (EPR) system, an economic mechanism that requires manufacturers and importers of goods and packaging to ensure their disposal (recycling or reuse) once they are no longer needed by the consumer. This system will soon be introduced in Armenia. Matevosyan also told the Ambassador that state environmental services in Armenia are now fully available online, thanks to the complete digitalization of environmental services.
The Minister also presented the recent legislative reforms aimed at modernizing environmental policy and aligning it with international standards. During the meeting, the head of the Ministry of Environment thanked the Ambassador for their constant attention to the country's environmental agenda, emphasizing that the Netherlands' experience in this area is invaluable, and that incorporating this knowledge into projects implemented in the country is important.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties focused on the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) in Armenia. The Minister and the Ambassador discusses new opportunities for cooperation with international partners within this framework.
