RA  Ministry of Internal Affairs urges pedestrians to strictly  observe traffic rules

ArmInfo.  Thousands of people suffer, die or are injured every year as a result of road traffic accidents all over the world. The situation in Armenia is also  worrying, as noted in a statement issued by the Ministry of Internal  Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.   In order to solve the issue, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, taking  into account the suggestions of citizens, has taken the initiative,  as a result of which amendments have been made to the RA Code "On  Administrative Offenses".  From now on, pedestrians who violate the  procedure for crossing the roadway, that is, cross the street in an  undesignated section, will be subject to stricter liability.

  Deputy Head of the Patrol Service Arman Chilingaryan details:  "If  previously, administrative liability for such a violation was five  times the minimum wage, that is, five thousand drams, then from  August 2 the amount of the fine has been tightened and amounts to  10,000 drams."

  The basis of the legislative change is worrying statistics: in 2023  alone, 1,197 cases of road traffic accidents were registered, as a  result of which 108 people died. In 2024, although the number of road  traffic accidents decreased slightly, the number of victims remained  almost the same. 1079 crashes, 107 victims.  The majority of crashes  occur as a result of pedestrians violating traffic rules.  At the  same time, the Patrol Service regularly carries out awareness-raising  events and explanatory work.  The goal of tightening administrative  responsibility is also aimed at preventing possible tragic incidents  and ensuring the safety of all road users by this method. In any  case, the best way to avoid being fined is not to violate the law.
