ArmInfo. The Armenian government is modernizing the air quality monitoring system. The decision was made during a government meeting on August 14.
As part of the decision, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the procedure establishing new air quality assessment standards, measurement methods and station locations. It is noted that the goal of this decision is to modernize the air quality monitoring system, bringing it into line with international standards and the requirements of the European Union (EU). The strictest standards set forth by the World Health Organization (WHO) are taken as a basis.
The new standards will be implemented in two stages. Starting 2030, air quality standards will align with the requirements of the European Union (EU) and the fourth phase indicators of the World Health Organization (WHO). By 2035, the strictest air quality standards proposed by WHO will be established. Additionally, there are plans to completely modernize the air quality monitoring system by 2030. This includes setting up 14 stationary and 2 mobile monitoring stations, as well as upgrading chemical laboratories for measuring organic pollutants and heavy metals.
