Russia highlights importance of interparliamentary relations with  friendly Armenia - Valentina Matviyenko

ArmInfo.  The format of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the National Assembly of the Republic of  Armenia is in demand. This was stated by the Chairperson of the  Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation  Valentina Matviyenko at the opening ceremony of the 39th meeting of  the inter- parliamentary commission on cooperation between the  parliaments of the two countries.

According to her, the parliaments of Russia and Armenia are making  their contribution to strengthening cooperation and friendship. The  commission is doing a lot to implement the agreements reached at the  highest level. "Russia attaches great importance to  inter-parliamentary cooperation with fraternal Armenia," the SF  speaker said.

She added that the current forum is taking place at a special time,  in the year when the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet  people in the Great Patriotic War is celebrated. "Of course, this is  our common Victory, the Victory of all the peoples of the former  Soviet Union, this is a page of our common history.  About 600  thousand Armenians fought on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War,  more than a hundred sons of the Armenian people were awarded the  title of Hero of the Soviet Union, the republic gave 5 Marshals of  the Soviet Union, about 30 people became full Cavaliers of the Order  of Glory," said the speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian  Federation, adding that the name of Ivan Khristoforovich Baghramyan  is forever inscribed in the history of the Great Patriotic War, as  are the names of many other outstanding Heroes of the Soviet Union.

"A landmark event was the opening of a museum named after this  outstanding military leader in Yerevan in the anniversary year.  During the war, the Armenian people and the Armenian Church created  samples of military equipment, including components for aviation and  tanks, and helped the children of front-line soldiers. We must  preserve and pass on memory to generations as our precious heritage.  The peoples and leaders of our countries understand the importance of  this mission.

Like our fathers and grandfathers, who stood as an indestructible  wall, so we must stand guard over the historical truth," she said.

The Speaker of the Federation Council expressed gratitude to the  Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan for  participating in the Victory Parade in Moscow. "A powerful historical  base is the basis on which bilateral ties between countries are built  and developed. It is gratifying that Moscow and Yerevan continue to  support inter-parliamentary dialogue, including in a multilateral  format," Valentina Matviyenko noted.
