Residents block street in protest at developer`s actions 

ArmInfo.  Citizens who suffered from the actions of an unscrupulous developer blocked Yerevan's Mikoyan Street, demanding that the authorities protect their rights.

In particular, they are protesting the fact that the developer,  represented by the company "KR Construction", having collected  financial resources from citizens, did not fulfill its obligations to  build a residential building on Anastas Mikoyan Street, 64, declaring  itself bankrupt.

Deputy Chairman of the RA National Assembly Committee on Economic  Issues Babken Tunyan met with the protesters. He noted that he is one  of the victims. "I just decided to be more modest and not to  advertise my problem. They called me and said that on Tuesday I would  have to sign the transfer act. I asked them to send me the documents  so I could read them. Now everyone has this document. But I saw that  there were unacceptable conditions and asked that the developers or  the owner be told that not only would I not sign it, but other  residents would not do so either. You can't dictate such conditions  to people, and the developer must fulfill everything that was in the  design and estimate documentation. The government must put pressure  on the developer to "come to his senses," the deputy noted, adding  that he intends to hold meetings with responsible persons today to  try to resolve the problem.

One of the protesters reported that their demands were presented to  the government reception office last Thursday, but no one from the  government building came out to see them. They demanded a meeting  with the deputy prime minister or the prime minister, but none of  them accepted them. The protester noted that if there are no punitive  measures against the developer, similar problems will arise in other  cases. "A 'Pandora's box' will open, and other developers will be  guided by the same methods, which will create more than serious  problems for many citizens. By the way, another company connected  with the bankrupt company continues to build buildings in other  places," the protester emphasized.

Municipal Police officers arrived at the scene of the action and  demanded that the protesters clear the street, to which they  responded that one of the alternative streets was open for traffic,  including fire trucks and ambulances. However, the protesters  promised to open the street for traffic, but assured that the  protesters' actions would be consistent. "We expect a reaction from  the mayor's office and the government, and if there is no reaction,  our actions will be expanded to an even larger scale.

The demands of 4 thousand people cannot be ignored," the protester  emphasized, adding that the protesters demanded that they be granted  rights to apartments and that additional money not be collected from  residents. He added that the Yerevan City Hall made changes to the  original project for the construction of the complex, illegally  allocating about 4 thousand square meters of territory, which were  subsequently alienated. It should be noted that the residential  complex at 64 Mikoyan Street was supposed to consist of 6 buildings,  which were supposed to house about 1,000 apartments.
