Blogger signals mass tree felling in Yerevan`s Nor Nork neighborhood

This time, under the leadership of the capital's municipality, more than 100 young trees have been cut down in the Nor Nork administrative district. Blogger Eduard Ayrumyan reports this on his Facebook  account. 

As the blogger reported, the new victims of the capital's  municipality were the trees on the slope of the Surb Sarkis Church in  the 5th residential area of Nor Nork. Ayrumyan described the incident  as the largest environmental disaster in the last three decades in  this administrative district. He drew attention to the fact that the  cut trees were hidden under a layer of black soil, explaining that in  this way the capital's municipality tried to erase the traces of the  vandalism committed. "This disaster was not the result of a flood,  tornado or hurricane, but of ecocide organized by Yerevan city hall  officials. Even I, who expose and fight illegal tree killers every  day, could not imagine such a felling in broad daylight. There are so  many felled trees that I do not have time to edit my videos," the  blogger noted.

Ayrumyan also drew attention to the fact that, according to the  mayor's office, a "forest belt" is planned to be created in place of  the cut down trees. In this regard, he expressed bewilderment: how  can the organization "Greening and Environmental Protection" (ONCO)  create a forest by cutting down trees?  "This is not a sidewalk, so  you can say that you want to plant identical trees. No, you just want  to destroy everything green," Ayrumyan complained.

In conclusion, the blogger called on all concerned citizens of  Yerevan who do not want to live in a desert to join forces and try to  stop the disaster organized by the mayor's office.

Since 2023, the Yerevan City Hall has been implementing the so-called  tree replacement program, especially in the city center. The  authorities explain this initiative by "the need to renew plantings  that are losing their viability with more valuable species." However,  experts believe that in fact, the capital's city hall is committing  ecocide. Thus, on March 15, Eduard Ayrumyan reported on the mass  cutting of healthy oaks in the Yerevan Botanical Garden. According to  him, about 30 viable trees have been cut down in the past few months.  According to the inspection body, the damage caused to the flora as a  result of this cutting amounted to 16,570,000 drams. Having  previously cut down healthy trees on Sayat-Nova, Tumanyan, Alex  Manukyan streets in the center of Yerevan, the so-called scientists  of the capital's city hall later took on the trees in Republic  Square. Despite persistent warnings from environmentalists about the  illegality of such actions, the authorities continue to cut down the  city's elms, which provide shade on the streets in hot weather,  replacing them with sakura, which are not suitable for the climate of  Yerevan.
