Opinion: Bagrat Srbazan`s struggle, with its value system, fits  organically into the logic of the emerging new world order

ArmInfo.The "Tavush for the Motherland" movement, led by cleric Bagrat (Srbazan) Galstanyan,  demanding the resignation of the current Prime Minister of Armenia, fits into some new global trends emerging in world politics. Political scientist Vahe Davtyan holds a similar opinion.

The expert is confident that the current year, 2024, is a turning  point, especially manifested in the results of the European  Parliament elections that ended on June 9.

"As I forecasted a year ago, the right-wing forces achieved  unprecedented positive results in the elections, especially the  ultra-segment, which had been outside European politics since World  War II.

Even the European People's Party, which received the majority of  votes, felt a serious threat and was forced to deviate to the right  from the center-right positions on a number of issues, in particular,  related to climate and migration.

Therefore, this is in some sense a Pyrrhic victory for the EPP. A  number of European political scientists are already saying that  rather unfavorable conditions are being created for the party leader  Ursula von der Leyen, especially in terms of implementing a  pro-Ukrainian course," Davtyan noted.  At the same time, the expert  is confident that the radical change in the traditional political  architecture in Europe is evidenced by Emmanuel Macron's decision to  dissolve the French parliament and hold early elections, Olaf  Scholz's rhetorical retreat, a sharp increase in the legitimacy of  the Italian ultra-right forces and many other micro- and  macro-processes. The political scientist added that an interesting  situation is being developed in two aspects. "Firstly, Brussels'  support for the ultra-liberal course of the current Armenian  authorities will be significantly reduced. The stronger the right  front in the EU, the more difficult it will be to make such  decisions.

Secondly, certain problems may arise in the EU-Azerbaijan cooperation  area. Von der Leyen is known for her efforts to develop economic and,  in particular, energy relations with Baku. In the current situation,  under pressure from the right wingers, she will have to soften her  anti-Russian attitude, which in the future may lead to an increase in  the weight of Russian gas on the European market (especially since  supplies continue today with a volume of 40-45 million cubic meters  per day). Obviously, such a prospect will be a blow below the belt  for Baku," Davtyan noted.

In this regard, the expert drew attention to the fact that the whole  essence of Bagrat Galstanyan's movement is aimed at building a  national state with its entire mission. "Considering the continuing  spread of right- wing ideology in the world (which is already  becoming noticeable in the US), Bagrat Srbazan's struggle with its   value system fits organically into the logic of the emerging new  world order," Davtyan summed up.
