Alen Simonyan: Power shift in Armenia is possible only with results  of 2026 NA elections

This was stated by Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan during a briefing for journalists on May 6, emphasizing that the authorities have at their disposal those maps and all bases.

To the remark that people in the country are opposed to the process  of delimitation and demarcation, he noted that as a politician he had  not heard any political demands. Simonyan emphasized that he respects  citizens who have a different opinion from him. But even with the  increase in the number of participants in the protest movement, which  started days earlier in the Tavush region led by Srbazan Bagrat  (Primate of the Tavush diocese of the AAC), he ruled out the  possibility of a power shift. "A power shift in Armenia is possible  only through elections to the National Assembly in 2026," said the  Speaker of the National Assembly.

At the same time, he expressed confidence that representatives of the  former authorities are behind all these protests. "How long can you  repeat what you did, but use different actors? Come up with something  new already! Anyway, at the end they will bring Vazgen Manukyan,  Robert Kocharyan, Serzh Sargsyan, Mihran Banananov (nickname of the  main banana importer Mihran Poghosyan, ed. note), Artur Vanetsyan,  Paruyr Hayrikyan. Who else is left there?," he added.

On May 4, a march to Yerevan started from Kirants village. Citizens  demand the Armenian authorities to abandon the policy of unilateral  concessions to Azerbaijan. Bagrat Srbazan mentioned that the movement  will arrive in Yerevan by noon on May 9 and will present concrete  demands to the authorities of Armenia.  A number of political forces  and figures have already expressed support for the movement.   Yesterday the length of movement was about 4 km.

Today, the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA), the Union  of Armenian Academicians of Zurich, expressed support for the "Tavush  for the Motherland" movement, led by the Primate of the Tavush  Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Archbishop Bagrat Srbazan  (Galstanyan). In addition, on May 4, a sit strike under the slogan  "No to territorial concessions" took place in front of the Armenian  Embassy in Lebanon. Among the organizers of the protest action is the  youth wing of the ARF of Lebanon.
