Armenia actually froze relations with CSTO; it is already established  fact

ArmInfo.It is already established fact that Armenia has frozen relations with the Collective Security Treaty Organization. Armenian political scientist, director of the Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandaryan  told reporters on February 24, commenting on an interview with RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan regarding the freezing of relations with the CSTO.

As Iskandaryan noted, it is possible to leave the CSTO if you do not  take the prime minister's remarks out of context. Meanwhile, as  Iskandaryan continued, Pashinyan spoke about the actual freezing of  relations with the organization, which is true. "At least since 2020,  if not earlier, these relations have been in crisis.  However, the  CSTO as an organization is also in crisis, which, in fact, is  recorded by the Armenian authorities. I would not interpret this as a  formal withdrawal from the CSTO, which "may or may not be, but as a  fact of the lack of interaction between Armenia and Russia within the  framework of the CSTO.  And as for the other parties to the Treaty,  it never worked with them.  Therefore, we can only talk about a  crisis in relations," the political scientist said.

He emphasized that unlike the situation created 5-8 years ago, today,  politics in Armenia and Russia are structured differently, when  everything happens live. There have always been contradictions, and  these contradictions often were and are objective in nature.  Basically, we are talking about poor mechanisms for using CSTO  troops. " We of course remain aware  about Russia's sale of weapons  to Azerbaijan, constant escapades from Kazakhstan and Belarus, but  all this was done privately, behind closed doors. Now both in Russia  and in Armenia everything is different," Iskandaryan stated, adding  that what is happening in Armenia is happening from the pages of the  press. And in Russia, the war with Ukraine led to many changes in the  style and policy of the Russian Federation. Moscow today has many  other concerns in the Ukrainian direction, in order to become more  actively involved in the affairs of the South Caucasus.
