Turkey closed its airspace to VIP planes from Armenia: Pashinyan says  opening of Nemesis monument in Yerevan is mistake

ArmInfo.Armenia is unbalanced in its statements and policies.  Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut  Cavusoglu stated this in an interview with Turkish media.  "In some cases, we see a positive statement, and then some completely opposite action. Unfortunately, we do not see the desired sincerity. The Armenia-Azerbaijan-Turkey cooperation is largely based on the interests of Armenia," the Turkish minister said.

In this vein, he highly appreciated Armenia's assistance to the  Turkish side during the devastating earthquake and the visit of the  RA Foreign Minister to Turkey against this background.

"But now they install a monument to those who killed our diplomats.  We showed a gesture, opened our air border, but now we closed it. We  also closed it to VIP planes, including Pashinyan's plane," Cavusoglu  said.

In turn, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in  an interview with  RFE/RL on May 5, referring to this incident in the Armenian-Turkish  relations, stated that a wrong decision was made on the issue of the  Nemesis monument, and the implementation of that decision was also  wrong.

In this vein, he added that it was not the government that made the  decision to install the monument, adding that one of the biggest  shortcomings of democracy is that the head of government does not  control everyone. "Yes, this is our team. It happened on an emotional  background and in a situation when many in Armenia considered others  traitor, and many threatened to shoot others for treason. There are  deep problems," the Armenian prime minister summed up.

It should be noted that on April 29, Turkey closed its airspace for  flights of the Armenian Flyone Armenia airline to Europe without  warning, and the airline's Paris-Yerevan flight was forced to land in  Chisinau, and was able to return to "Zvartnots" airport only on the  night of April 30. And already on May 2, the Turkish aviation  authorities did not provide FLYONE ARMENIA with the overflight  opportunity through Turkish airspace. Considering this circumstance,  the company had to cancel the Yerevan-Paris-Yerevan flight.

In this regard, Cavusoglu stated that Turkey closed the sky for  Armenian planes "in response to a provocation in Yerevan", namely the  opening of a monument to the participants in the Nemesis operation in  the capital of the Republic of Armenia. The monument was opened in  Yerevan on April 25.
