Pashinyan on key disagreements between Yerevan, Baku regarding peace  treaty

ArmInfo. The key disagreements that prevented Armenia and Azerbaijan from agreeing on some points of the  draft peace treaty at the talks in Washington concern Nagorno- Karabakh, but not only that. Prime Minister of Armenia Pashinyan said  in an interview with RFE/RL in Prague.

It should be reminded that on May 1-4, the Foreign Ministers of  Armenia and Azerbaijan held talks in Arlington, USA. As a result of  the meeting, the RA MFA reported that The Ministers and their teams  advanced mutual understanding on some articles of the draft bilateral  Agreement on Peace and Establishment of Interstate Relations,  meanwhile acknowledging that the positions on some key issues remain  divergent.

"Although it was recorded in Prague and Sochi that Armenia and  Azerbaijan recognize each other's territorial integrity, we are still  unable to reach an agreement on the wording of the draft peace treaty  that would give us confidence that Azerbaijan recognizes Armenia's  29,800 square kilometers," Pashinyan said.

When asked which proposal Armenia is guided by: the issue of Artsakh  to be suspended and Russian peacekeepers to leave, or the West to  provide security guarantees to the Armenians living in Artsakh,  Pashinyan said: "Armenia is working on a proposal in which the issue  of security and rights of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh should be  discussed on the platform of the Baku-Stepanakert dialogue, which  should have a certain international participation, otherwise this  topic and agenda may simply be forgotten by Azerbaijan."

At the same time, the Armenian Prime Minister claims that the  discussion started in Washington can be continued in Moscow, refuting  the assertions that there are Western and Russian proposals that  differ from each other.

As Pashinyan noted, approaches were proposed by the West, but not a  proposal fixed on paper. , he said.

To a clarifying question: was there such an attempt in Sochi,  Pashinyan repeated: "Moscow has not made such an attempt again." , Nikol Pashinyan said.
