Armenia is among countries with low birthrate- Specialist

ArmInfo.According to the UN classification, Armenia is among the countries with a low birthrate.  Mher Manukyan, PR coordinator of the Armenian office of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA Armenia)  stated on April 19 at a press conference. 

According to him, the main reason for the decline in the birth rate  in the country is emigration rather than the number of births. In  order to solve the existing problem, the office of the United Nations  Population Fund offered state institutions the best world experience  regarding the search for solutions, and not chasing the mistakes of  other states. One of the problems, Manukyan continued, is the  untapped internal potential. He pointed to frequently emerging  initiatives that were surprising. "In particular, a person holding a  significant public position even proposed artificial insemination of  all girls and women in order to increase the birthrate," the  specialist noted.

Meanwhile, Manukyan continued, there are many problems in the  country, the solution of which will prevent migration flows, as a  result we will have families with many children.  The specialist  noted that couples in Armenia began to get married late, which,  however, is an international trend. According to him, the problem of  divorce is no less important, and Yerevan is the leader in this  direction, where, according to research results, it turned out that  in 2022 there was 1 divorce for every 2.5 marriages. According to  this indicator, Yerevan is followed by Lori region, where 1 divorce  was registered for every 3 marriages.

Manukyan also pointed to the problems in the healthcare sector, in  which there are numerous areas that need to be improved. In  particular, in terms of the number of deaths, cardiovascular diseases  are in the first place. With appropriate work aimed at promoting a  healthy lifestyle and giving up bad habits, the country will have a  healthy generation.

The expert also noted the need for steps to prevent gender-based  abortions. Last year, 112 such cases were recorded, which is  significantly higher than in previous years. No less problem is the  solution of the issue of infertility, as well as the prevention of  suicides, the number of which is in the hundreds.
