Forecast: There are no prospects for real peace between Armenia and  Azerbaijan

ArmInfo.There are no prospects for real peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, nor for the conclusion of a peace treaty. Political analyst Armen Baghdasaryan  expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.  

"Personally, I do not expect that it will be signed, first of all,  considering the fact that Baku wants a very high price from us for  this peace. And I get the impression that the leadership of Armenia  is not at all in the mood to pay this price. And even if by some  miracle the treaty will suddenly be signed, it will remain on paper,  just like the notorious "era of peace", since its main component,  that is the unblocking of communications, will also not happen, and  Armenia will remain in a semi-blockade," he is convinced.

Baghdasaryan explains such pessimism with Azerbaijan's expectations  from Armenia, according to which the latter will recognize its  territorial integrity, will finally give up the idea of participating  in the Artsakh issue and will provide it with an extraterritorial  Zangezur corridor. In this light, the analyst expressed his  conviction that what Baku really needs from Yerevan is a corridor  rather than communications. According to him, all these prospects are well understood by the  representatives of the Armenian authorities. Hence, in parallel with  optimistic statements about the desire to sign a peace treaty, the  same Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan suddenly declares that  Azerbaijan today is more focused on a new war than on a peace treaty  with Armenia. The latter, in Baghdasaryan's opinion, means an  imitation of negotiations performed by Baku, which in fact seeks to  finally de-Armenize Artsakh. 

"Baku considers this solely as a matter of time, waiting for the  withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers from Artsakh in 2.5 years. And by  this time they to receive from Yerevan an internationally approved  written agreement to absolutely not interfere in the future fate of  Artsakh and the people of Artsakh, in the form of that notorious  peace treaty, which even if signed, will remain on paper for  Armenia," the analyst summed up.
