
ArmInfo. The Republic of Armenia has applied to the European Court of Human Rights to ensure respect of the fundamental human rights of the Armenian prisoners of war captured on 16 November 2021 during the offensive launched by Azerbaijan on the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia.
As the Office of the Representative of the Republic of Armenia before the ECtHR reports, the Office has submitted request to the European Court to indicate interim measures under Rule 39 of the Rules of Court against Azerbaijan, which aims to ensure respect of the captives' rights to life and prohibition of torture envisaged by the European Convention on Human Rights.
It should be reminded that, on November 16 at about 1:00pm units of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan attacked the Armenian positions located in the eastern direction of the border. The enemy used artillery, armored vehicles, firearms of various calibers. according to the RA Ministry of Defense, as a result of the retaliatory actions of the Armenian side the enemy has large losses in manpower and equipment. The Armenian side also has losses.
The RA Defense Ministry reported late in the evening on the same day that according to the agreement reached with the mediation of the Russian side, the fire in the eastern direction of the Armenian border had been stopped from 6:30pm, the situation had relatively stabilized. The RA Defense Ministry announced the names of six dead Armenian servicemen and informed about the capture of 13 Armenian servicemen by the enemy. It is noted that communication with another 24 military personnel has been lost. It was also reported about the loss of two combat positions from the Armenian side.
