Yerevan accuses Baku of trying to create new hotbeds of tension in  region

On July 14, the Azerbaijani armed forces instigated a provocative action in adjacent territories of Yeraskh settlement of the Republic of Armenia, as a  result of which Samvel Gagik Alaverdyan, a contract serviceman of the  armed forces of the Republic of Armenia, was fatally shot by a  sniper.  We express our deep condolences and support to the family  members and relatives of the killed soldier.

These provocative actions occurred after the infiltration of the  Azerbaijani armed forces into the sovereign territory of the Republic  of Armenia in Syunik and Gegharkunik regions, clearly demonstrate  that official Baku is trying to create new areas of tension  undermining regional peace and security.

We strongly condemn this encroachment against the Republic of  Armenia, which is also a gross violation of the fundamental  principles of international law.

Such steps undertaken by the military-political leadership of  Azerbaijan may further escalate the situation, henceforth the  Azerbaijani authorities bear full responsibility for the  consequences.

As ArmInfo previously reported with reference to the RA Ministry of  Defense, As ArmInfo previously reported with reference to the RA  Ministry of Defense, on July 14, at about 10:30 am, a shootout took  place between the Armenian and Azerbaijani Armed Forces of the RA on  the border section in the direction of Yeraskh (Ararat region).

"Subdivisions of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, in order to advance  their combat positions, tried to carry out fortification works using  engineering equipment.  After the retaliatory actions of the Armenian  side aimed at stopping these works, the Azerbaijani servicemen opened  fire in the direction of the Armenian positions. As a result of the  ensuing firefight, a serviceman of the RA Armed Forces received a  fatal gunshot wound. The Azerbaijani side also has losses., "the RA  Defense Ministry said.

To note, the incident was also confirmed by the Azerbaijani side.   According to the Azerbaijani military department, a soldier of the  Azerbaijani army Mardanli Ibadulla Mahsud oglu was wounded as a  result of the shootout. The wounded was given first aid, after which  he was evacuated to a medical facility. 

It is also worth noting that against the backdrop of everything that  is happening, today Azerbaijani dictator Ilham Aliyev, with the  connivance of the international community, once again hinted at the  sovereign territories of Armenia, stating that Yerevan and  as well  as Zangezur are "historical" Azerbaijani territories, and they will  definitely return there.

Despite the fact that Aliyev received higher education in such a  prestigious Russian institution as MGIMO, he has obvious problems  with knowledge of such a subject as history. Otherwise, one cannot  justify these narrow-minded statements of the Azerbaijani leader,  which have nothing to do with historical reality. With the same  success, Aliyev can lay claim to the territory of the Roman Empire.
