Zhirayr Sefilyan: Armenia has once again become victim in the  geopolitical games of major players

ArmInfo.In the geopolitical games of major players, Armenia has once again become a victim. One of the leaders of the Sasna Tsrer movement, Zhirayr Sefilyan, stated  this at a press conference on December 4.

In his words, just as at the beginning of the last century, when the  Armenian people suffered genocide, they became a victim of Ottoman  Turkey, so in the 21st century they again became a victim. Before the  war, as Sefilyan noted, observing the geopolitical development of the  situation in the region, it was impossible not to pay attention to  the existence of a decision to destabilize the situation in the  region. In particular, the process of developing the situation  according to the Syrian scenario has begun.  Meanwhile, the events  that have unfolded since September 27 could have been avoided if the  Armenian people had their own statehood. From 1991 to 1994, Armenia  in some ways resembled a state, but began to lose it in 1994, since  no serious steps were taken to strengthen the country's security in  the following decades. The army cannot be blamed for the dire  consequences of the war, since the political order for readiness for  war comes down from the country's political leadership. The army was  supported only formally, and no work was done in terms of preparing  for war. But even if the people had a real statehood, it would hardly  have been possible to avoid the war, but its results would have been  completely different, and the Armenian side would have victory. From  the very first days of the war, the Sasna Tsrer movement proposed  solutions to this or that situation. On the second day of  hostilities, the enemy's advantage in the air became clear, and  instead of changing the strategy on the battlefield, in fact, nothing  was done. In particular, it was necessary to switch to semi-guerrilla  warfare in the occupied territories, including along the Araks River.  It was equally important to diversify foreign policy.

Zhirayr Sefilyan noted that a candidate nominated for prime minister  from 17 opposition political parties cannot represent the entire  people. He expressed hope that in the near future the political  spectrum will expand and new candidates will appear. However, as  Sefilyan considers, a 17-party candidate for prime minister, will  have to hold a dialogue with representatives of the entire political  field. He urged politicians to temporarily abandon the improvement of  their ratings and to mobilize efforts to stabilize the situation.   Sefilyan noted that in the current depressive situation, it is  impossible to hold quick elections.
