Municipality: in the framework of the five-year program for 2019-2023  500 thousand trees planned to be planted in Yerevan

ArmInfo.The Yerevan Municipality, within the framework of the community-private sector cooperation, proposes to establish a new forest park near the  Nubarashen garbage dump on the territory of more than 20 hectares.  "In the future, when the Nubarashen garbage dump will be covered, the  territory of the forest park will extend to this site," Khachik  Hakobyan, the head of the Department of Nature Protection of the  Yerevan Municipality, said at a press conference on January 15.

In particular, according to Hakopyan, perennial trees of valuable  species will be planted; a drip irrigation system will be introduced.  Work on the creation of a forest park will begin this year. In  general, in the framework of the five-year program for 2019-2023 up  to 500 thousand trees planned to be planted in Yerevan, of which 30  thousand trees and shrubs will be planted this year. Planting trees  will be carried out in areas where the irrigation system operates.  Trees of decorative species will be replaced by valuable species,  including flowering tree species, which will drastically change the  appearance of the capital. Over 1 million flower seedlings will also  be planted this year, and the range of ornamental species will be  significantly expanded.

On an area of about 1 hectare of "Freedom Square", which the Mayor's  Office intends to release from the cafe, it is planned to plant  evergreen tree species, as well as flowering shrubs. As the head of  the Office has assured, by the end of this year, the final result  will be visible. In the current year, work will also be carried out  on gardening and planting trees on the Davitashen-Ashtarak section of  the North-South highway (about 3.2 hectares). On the territory of 27  hectares, near Monte Melkonyan Street, a new recreation area will be  opened. The city administration will also focus its attention on the  development of nursery plants and private greenhouses. "It is planned  to transfer 2800 silver fir trees to our nursery of seedlings in  April, which were received as a gift from the German Red Cross to the  2800th anniversary of Yerevan. They will be planted in the capital  territories in one or two years," Hakobyan said. City Hall plans to  hold a competition for the best-flowered balcony. For city residents  who want to turn their balconies into a blooming oasis, the city  administration is ready to assist through consultations and the  provision of flower seedlings.
