ArmInfo. The head of the EU delegation in Armenia, Piotr Switalski, expressed regret at the failure of the draft reform of the Electoral Code in parliament.
According to him, it is regrettable that the draft failed, which was approved by the President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio, which also reflected the proposals of the Council of Europe. "We believe that the opportunity to reform the Electoral Code was missed. Nevertheless, we highly appreciate the efforts of the government and experts in reforming the electoral legislation," the diplomat said. Despite the failure of the EC reform project, Switalski assured that the EU will continue assisting Armenia in organizing electoral processes. "We believe that sooner or later, these changes will be accepted, as we see the desire of the new authorities of Armenia to carry out democratic reforms," he stressed.
To note yesterday parliament for the second time rejected the draft reform of the EC, this was facilitated by the position of the MPs from the Republican Party and the two MPs from Dashnaktsutyun.
