Political Expert: avoiding open conflict with Turkey one of main  achievements of Russia.

Avoiding straight military conflict with  Turkey, shaped in early 2016, is one of the greatest achievement of  Russian foreign policy," Russian political expert and "Russia in Global Policy" journal editor  Fyodor Lukyanov states.  "It is very important that we could recover our relations, because at the time of escalation we saw how much harm we could do to each other.

That is why the situation settled here. At that, I don't think at all that Russia is close to the straight conflict with United States. The September fiasco of Syrian crisis lead the relationships of Moscow and  Washington to the stage of mental Cold War, when sides don't want anything except opposing each other," he stated. 

At that, according to the expert, Syrian events showed the  American-Russian contradictions remaining unchanged and the  possibility of returning to Cold War. Following him, it is impossible  to leave everything in Syria like it is now. Hence, the war will  continue after Aleppo as well, and the next target will be Idlib,  controlled by Islamic radicals. 

Anyway, the situation in Syria and around Syria changed essentially,  and there is n word about dethroning Bashar Asad .Russia proved its  being key player in the Middle East area, fixing own mid east policy  as an asset. 

"We reached what we could, but the war is not over yet, and it is  quite unclear what will come next. No one, including Russia, wants    the endless war. But political processes has stopped and nobody knows  who should negotiate and with whom," the expert summarized.
