Armenia`s CEC received 8 appeals to recalculate ballots in 11 polling stations

ArmInfo. Armenia's Central Electoral Commission has received 8 appeals to recalculate ballots in 11 polling stations at the local government elections.

The press-service of CEC Armenia informs that the appeals were received on September 19 between 12:00pm and 6:00pm.

The abovementioned appeals were sent to electoral commissions of districts number 20 and 40. It is also noted that no appeals on recognizing the results non valid have been received.

"Additional 142 statements related to the elections were received from observers and representatives of mass media. 87 of them were presented to the electoral commission of the district number 14, the remaining 55 statements addressed to the electoral districts number 14, 15 and 37 were presented to the CEC Armenia. CEC will study all the statements in the set terms", the statement of the CEC of Armenia reads.

To note, numerous violations were reported as the first stage of elections to the local self-government is over in 37 communities in Armenia. In particular, Citizen Observer and Transparency International report various cases of violations during voting, such as ballot-stuffing, voting outside polling stations, frightening of voters, queues, multiple voting, obstruction of the activity of journalists and observers.  In the town of Etchmiadzin, the passions ran so high that one of the candidates was kidnapped reportedly by the incumbent mayor's supporters. It is noteworthy that the incumbent mayor Karen Grigoryan is the son of MP, General Mavel Grigoryan. A criminal case was initiated on the fact. The beaten candidate for mayor is still in hospital.  To note, turnout was 49% throughout the republic. Overall results of the elections are not known yet.
