ArmInfo. Large families in Armenia will gain access to housing. The RA government approved a housing program and its implementation procedures at its November 5 meeting.
In his speech, Minister of Labor and Welfare Arsen Torosyan noted that the program will be extended to families with six or more minor children as of July 1, 2027. Each child will receive a certificate in the amount of 4 million drams, which can be used through a mortgage loan from the country's commercial banks for the construction or purchase of a home. Furthermore, if families wish to build a home in rural areas, the state will provide them with an additional 4 million drams for the purchase of a new plot of land or agricultural machinery. However, as the minister noted, only those citizens who submit income declarations will be able to take advantage of the program. This is necessary to improve the targeting of state aid. If the income declaration indicates 10 million drams, these families will not be eligible for the program. The same applies to families that already own property.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Labor and Welfare currently implements only one state housing support program for families with children in order to improve the demographic situation. Families with several children are more likely to experience financial difficulties. Access to housing and homeownership are considered an important foundation for family stability: it improves quality of life, reduces social tension, and strengthens family ties with society. Currently, according to preliminary information collected in communities, there are 643 families with 6 or more minor children in the Republic of Armenia, of which 390 have 6 children, 143 have 7 children, 76 have 8 children, 26 have 12 children, 5 have 10 children, 2 have 11 children, and 1 family has 12 children.
