RA Ministry of Internal Affairs reports alleged crimes committed by  police officers

ArmInfo.  The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia has sent seven reports to investigative bodies regarding alleged crimes committed by police  officers. This was reported in a statement by the Ministry of  Internal Affairs' press service.

The statement emphasizes that, in line with its commitment to public  accountability and ensuring internal discipline within the system,  the Ministry of Internal Affairs places special emphasis on informing  the public about the results of internal investigations and  inspections. In the first half of 2026, the Department of Internal  Security and Fight against Corruption of the Ministry of Internal  Affairs conducted 680 internal investigations and inspections. 162  disciplinary sanctions were imposed on officials, civil servants, and  employees of the police, the Rescue Service, the Migration Service,  and subordinate organizations, primarily for failure to perform or  improper performance of duties stipulated by laws governing their  activities, violations of the law in the exercise of their powers,  and violations of internal disciplinary rules.

A total of 146 disciplinary measures were imposed on police officers,  including: 11 warnings, 86 reprimands, 19 severe reprimands, 19  reductions in base salary by up to 20%, and 11 dismissals. Eleven  police officers were simultaneously dismissed from service as a  non-disciplinary sanction under Article 45, Part 1, Clauses 9, 11.1,  and Part 1.2 of the Law "On Police Service," specifically, based on  the entry into force of a guilty verdict against a police officer,  the discovery of a violation of the statutory procedure for  recruitment into the police force, and the termination of criminal  proceedings brought against a police officer for an act containing  elements of a deliberate crime on non- rehabilitative grounds.

Rescue Service employees were issued three disciplinary sanctions,  including one reprimand and two severe reprimands. One rescuer was  simultaneously dismissed from the Rescue Service.

Civil servants of the Migration and Citizenship Service were issued  six disciplinary sanctions, including two warnings, one reprimand,  and three severe reprimands. Five disciplinary actions were imposed  on services and employees of state non-profit organizations  subordinate to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, including four  reprimands and one severe reprimand.

In the first half of 2026, the Department of Internal Security and  Anti-Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs prepared and  submitted seven official investigation reports to investigative  bodies, resulting in seven criminal cases being opened for alleged  crimes committed by police officers. These reports included elements  of abuse of office, document forgery, fraud, driving a vehicle while  deprived of or suspended from driving, and other alleged offenses.

During the reporting period, three meetings of the disciplinary  commission were held.  Sixteen reports and conclusions from official  investigations conducted against 17 police officers and one Rescue  Service employee were reviewed. After analyzing the factual  circumstances, the Disciplinary Committee of the Ministry of Internal  Affairs decided to appeal to the officials who appointed the service  examinations with a request to bring 17 employees of the Police and  Rescue Service to disciplinary responsibility, proposing to apply  disciplinary measures in the form of a severe reprimand to 6  employees and dismissal from service to 11 employees, as well as to  release one police officer from disciplinary responsibility.
