The state visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Georgia concluded

ArmInfo. On July 17, 2026, early in the morning, the head of state arrived at Heroes' Square in Tbilisi. A guard of honor lined up there.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, honoring the memory of Georgia's national heroes, laid flowers at the monument. This testified to the continuity of the traditions of the Turkmen and Georgian peoples, such as honoring the memory of heroes who gave their lives for the bright future of future generations. The national anthems of both countries were then played.

Following the flower-laying ceremony, the head of state's motorcade proceeded to the Georgian Government building. Here, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov was warmly greeted by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

One-on-one talks were then held between the head of state and the head of the Georgian Government. Warmly welcoming the distinguished Turkmen guest, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze noted that Georgia attaches particular importance to developing productive relations with Turkmenistan. It was emphasized that the current state visit by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov will provide a powerful impetus to expanding bilateral cooperation.

Taking the opportunity, the head of the friendly country's government conveyed greetings and best wishes to the National Leader of the Turkmen people.

As noted, the participation of the President of Turkmenistan in the Turkmen-Georgian Business Forum held the previous day lent special status to this event. At the same time, it was emphasized that the forum's outcomes are intended to facilitate the expansion of bilateral trade and economic ties.

The head of Turkmenistan expressed gratitude for the invitation to pay a state visit to Georgia and the warm welcome and hospitality extended to the Turkmen delegation. He took the opportunity to convey greetings from Hero Arkadag to Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

It was emphasized that our countries have established close cooperation in political, diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian areas.

The talks then continued in an expanded format with the participation of the delegations of the two countries.

After warmly welcoming President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the members of the Turkmen delegation, the Prime Minister of Georgia noted the significance of the current visit by the head of Turkmenistan, expressing confidence that the results of the summit meeting will provide impetus to the further strengthening of bilateral relations. As Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze emphasized, the 2015 visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen People to Georgia laid the foundation for the development of interstate cooperation, which is now steadily expanding thanks to the efforts of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

The Prime Minister of the friendly country noted that he had visited Turkmenistan three times and, taking the opportunity, once again expressed his gratitude for the hospitality. As emphasized, the bilateral documents scheduled for signing today will open new opportunities for expanding cooperation in various areas.

The floor was then given to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who, on his own behalf and on behalf of the members of the Turkmen delegation, thanked Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze for the warm welcome. Relations between Turkmenistan and Georgia are steadily developing, the head of state continued, stating that the current visit is intended to further strengthen bilateral dialogue.

Taking the opportunity, President Berdimuhamedov also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze for the attention paid to developing cooperation between the two countries.

As the head of state noted, Turkmen-Georgian cooperation is currently comprehensive. Bilateral relations, based on the long-term interests of the two peoples and states, are a model of mutual respect, equality and friendship.

It was emphasized that specific measures are being implemented to strengthen partnership in the political, trade-economic and social spheres, and that cultural and humanitarian contacts are expanding. This is confirmed by the large package of documents scheduled for signing during the current visit.

High praise was also given to the effective interaction between the two countries within international structures, primarily at the United Nations.

Speaking about the stable and effective nature of the Turkmen-Georgian trade and economic partnership, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted with satisfaction the recent dynamic growth in mutual trade turnover. In this context, emphasis was placed on the important role of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.

Identifying transport and logistics as key strategic areas, President Berdimuhamedov confirmed Turkmenistan's readiness to assist Georgian partners in accessing the markets of Central Asia, the Asia-Pacific region and South Asia.

The Lazuli transport corridor, involving Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey, was named among significant and priority projects. Our country's interest in expanding cooperation in the energy sector was also expressed. In this context, a commitment to a detailed discussion of prospects for collaboration in this area was confirmed. Tourism was highlighted as a key area of cooperation.

Furthermore, the importance of developing direct contacts between the business structures of the two countries was noted. In particular, it was noted with satisfaction that specific, promising proposals were voiced and discussed during the Turkmen-Georgian business forum.

In 2024, a monument to the renowned Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli was unveiled in Ashgabat, and Georgia has many admirers of Turkmen culture and the creative legacy of the outstanding poet Makhtumkuli Pyragy, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized.

Emphasis was also placed on the significant attention paid to developing bilateral relations in scientific and educational spheres, establishing direct ties between leading higher education institutions and academic institutes. Noting the importance of continuing the practice of establishing sister city relations between the cities of Turkmenistan and Georgia, the head of state noted that an agreement establishing sister city relations between the cities of Arkadag and Telavi was signed three years ago. In this regard, it was proposed to discuss establishing sister city relations between the coastal cities of Turkmenbashi and Batumi.

Concluding his speech, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed his firm confidence that the friendly and trusting ties between Turkmenistan and Georgia would continue to develop. Once again thanking for the hospitality and warm welcome, the head of state took the opportunity to invite Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to visit Turkmenistan at his convenience.

Then, a signing ceremony for the Joint Statement and the exchange of bilateral documents took place, with the participation of the head of Turkmenistan and the head of the Georgian government. In a solemn ceremony, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze signed the Joint Statement. An exchange of bilateral documents then took place.

Following the signing and document exchange ceremony, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze addressed the press.

Speaking to the media, the Turkmen leader noted that the talks with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze were held in a businesslike atmosphere. He also noted the fruitful nature of the meeting with the Georgian President held the previous day. It was emphasized that the talks confirmed both countries' commitment to continuing fruitful cooperation.

It was noted that agreements had been reached to expand political dialogue, establish a legal framework, and consistently pursue diplomatic efforts.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted with satisfaction the productive nature of the meetings and talks held with the Georgian leadership. Expressing confidence that the agreements reached today will contribute to the further development and strengthening of Turkmen-Georgian cooperation, the Turkmen leader extended his best wishes for peace, well-being, and prosperity to the friendly Georgian people.

Having concluded their state visit to Georgia, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze departed for Tbilisi's Shota Rustaveli International Airport. At the airport, the head of state and the head of government of their friendly country, once again noting the importance of the high-level talks held, exchanged best wishes.

Sometime later, the presidential plane landed at the Turkmen capital's international airport. There, the head of state was warmly welcomed by officials from our country.

Thus, the results of the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan confirmed the commitment of both countries to elevating bilateral cooperation to a qualitatively new level. The substantial package of signed documents forms a reliable foundation for the development of a long-term partnership, and the successful negotiations are evidence of a high level of mutual understanding.
