ArmInfo. The current government in Armenia, led by Nikol Pashinyan, has not received the support of the majority of citizens, according to Narek Karapetyan, the number one candidate in Samvel Karapetyan's "Strong Armenia" bloc.
He stated that the 2015 Constitution of Armenia is written in such a way that even a party that does not receive more than 50% of the vote can become the head of state. Karapetyan noted that the majority of Armenian citizens did not vote for the political party of current Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in the parliamentary elections held on June 7.
"The majority of our citizens did not vote for Pashinyan, meaning we conclude that the majority of citizens do not want to see these authorities at the helm of the state. What kind of force they want to lead the country is another matter, but the fact remains that the majority of Armenians do not want to see Pashinyan at the helm," the Strong Armenia representative noted.
In this context, he called the proper consolidation of opposition forces an important task, noting that the scattering of votes, widespread election fraud, dismissals, and arrests have deprived the country of transparent and fair elections.
"We saw how the votes of more than 50,000 citizens were stolen," the politician emphasized, referring to the Prosperous Armenia party's disqualification from parliament.
According to the Central Election Commission of Armenia, 49.75% of voters voted for Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract party in the parliamentary elections held on June 7, giving this party 64 mandates, 23.27% (29 mandates) for Strong Armenia, and 9.92% (12 mandates) for the Armenia bloc.
