ArmInfo. The current pro-Turkish regime in Armenia, by imposing the shameful, essentially unconstitutional decision of July 4 through the Constitutional Court, has effectively defied the majority of our people, who voted against the regime amid widespread threats and repression. This is stated in a statement by Avetik Chalabyan, coordinator of the national civic association Hayaqve," who is under arrest.
The statement notes that the regime has brazenly appropriated the people's votes, using every possible and impossible means to steal their mandates.
"What remains for us, the forces representing the majority of the people? Not to recognize the legitimacy of this regime, to consider it an occupation regime imposed from abroad, and to hinder its further attempts to establish Turkish-Azerbaijani domination over our country by all possible peaceful means. Unlike in previous years, even having seized the National Assembly, this regime no longer enjoys the support of the people, and each of its subsequent anti-Armenian and anti-state steps will meet with increasing resistance. We will see this in the coming months, but until then, we must learn from what has happened and strengthen our ranks to emerge victorious at the next opportunity," the statement reads.
As a reminder, a court ruling on June 24 ordered Chalabyan's arrest for two months. The Investigative Committee previously presented the reason for his detention, noting that in May 2026, the latter traveled to and met with officials of another state, during which, through persuasion, as well as an interest in ensuring the victory of their preferred political force, he persuaded them to use their official powers, authority, and the influence they owed to them, to obstruct the free exercise of the electoral rights of citizens of the Republic of Armenia who had the right to vote in the parliamentary elections held in the Republic of Armenia on June 7, 2026.
