"Strong Armenia": Citizens expect  Constitutional Court to serve  interests of  Armenian people and democracy

ArmInfo.The Armenian public expects the Constitutional Court to uphold the interests of the people and democratic principles. This was stated on Facebook by Anush Mirzoyan, a member of the "Strong Armenia" bloc, as the Court  held its final hearing on July 1 regarding the challenge to the  parliamentary election results, after which the High Court is set to  deliberate on its final verdict.

As the member of the political party noted, while the Constitutional  Court has yet to announce its decision regarding the June 7  parliamentary elections, the "Civil Contract" party is already  distributing government positions. "How can you allocate posts when  there is still a possibility of a second round of elections? Why are  you in such a hurry? Why has the ruling party already appointed Ruben  Rubinyan as Speaker of the National Assembly? What was Rubinyan doing  during his student years when he was in Turkey? One of the first to  congratulate him was Turkey's Special Representative for the  normalization of relations with Armenia, Serdar K?l?c, who wished him  'continued success.' Success for whom—for Turkey?" Mirzoyan  questioned.

Addressing the reasons behind the ruling party's haste, the  politician recalled that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declared his  victory when only 10% of the ballots had been counted. She argued  that this happened because Pashinyan realized he would not win  otherwise. "Just as then, now—while the Constitutional Court has not  yet made its decision—they are already distributing positions. It is  obvious that Pashinyan does not want a second round because he is not  confident that the resources he utilized previously could be deployed  again," she emphasized.

Under these circumstances, she noted, the expectation from the  Constitutional Court is to prove that Armenia possesses both a  functioning Constitution and a culture of constitutionalism. "This is  exactly what the representative of the 'Strong Armenia' bloc, Aram  Vardevanyan, stated during his address to the Constitutional Court.  The people, regardless of their reservations regarding the  Constitutional Court, hope that it will serve the interests of the  nation and democracy," Mirzoyan concluded.
