ArmInfo. Narek Karapetyan, the number one candidate on the "Strong Armenia" bloc's election list, has filed a lawsuit against Armenia's Investigative Committee, demanding a retraction of false information disseminated about him, claiming he concealed his citizenship of another country. This was reported on the website of the Datalex judicial information system.
According to the lawsuit, Karapetyan demands that the Investigative Committee publish a retraction titled "Refutation of defamatory information regarding Narek Karapetyan" on the agency's official website, as well as on its Facebook and Telegram pages, within five working days of the court's decision taking effect. The plaintiff insists that the Investigative Committee publicly state that the information disseminated on May 20 that the Strong Armenia bloc candidate concealed his foreign citizenship is false, defamatory, and unfounded, and that it apologize to Karapetyan. Furthermore, Karapetyan demands that the Investigative Committee pay symbolic compensation of one dram and cover legal costs, including state fees and attorney's fees.
Karapetyan's claim was recently accepted for hearing by the Yerevan Civil Court, presided over by Judge Tigran Grigoryan. The proceedings stem from the events of May 2026. On May 19, Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan published a document he claimed proved Karapetyan's Russian citizenship. The following day, the Investigative Committee announced the initiation of criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 449 of the Armenian Criminal Code (concealment of information preventing the acquisition or retention of official status).
