ArmInfo. The revolutionary programs of Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the "Strong Armenia" bloc, will put an end to extreme poverty in the country and resolve an issue that has remained unaddressed for decades, as stated by Marianna Ghahramanyan, spokesperson for the "Strong Armenia" party, on her Facebook page.
According to her, amid the political issues raised during the June 4 pre-election debates and the noise created by one person (referring to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan - ed.), a critical part of information went unnoticed: Samvel Karapetyan will make electricity and water free for disadvantaged families in Armenia. Ghahramanyan explained that this initiative to support socially vulnerable groups will be implemented within the framework of the state fund "Overcoming Poverty." "Let me remind you that through funds from this very same foundation, families living in extreme poverty will receive monthly assistance in the amount of 150,000 drams. These revolutionary programs will allow Armenia's next Prime Minister, Samvel Karapetyan, to end extreme poverty in our country and solve a problem that has gone unaddressed for decades," the political force's spokesperson stated.
In this regard, she recalled that 660,000 people in Armenia currently live in poverty, approximately 200,000 of whom are children, and around 30,000 people are on the brink of extreme poverty. Kaghramanyan assured that these issues will be resolved specifically through the programs of their political force. "These programs will allow us to eliminate extreme poverty in Armenia in a short period of time, and overcoming poverty, as Samvel Karapetyan noted, will be a matter of his personal honor. In a strong Armenia, no one will struggle to put bread on the table. Armenia will be strong," Ghahramanyan concluded.
It is worth noting that Aram Vardevanyan, a member of the "Strong Armenia" bloc, previously stated that in 2021, the poverty rate in Armenia stood at 27%. Meanwhile, according to the pre-election promises of the ruling Civil Contract party, this figure was supposed to be cut in half. Instead, according to him, recent official data shows the country's poverty rate stands at around 22%, with approximately 30,000 people living in extreme poverty.
