ArmInfo. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan held a telephone conversation with Marta Kos, the European Commissioner for Enlargement.
The parties discussed mechanisms aimed at strengthening the economic cooperation between Armenia and the EU, including measures designed to increase mutual trade. They also exchanged views on the implementation of programs aimed at developing regional connectivity and further cooperation to strengthen democratic resilience within the framework of the Armenia-EU strategic partnership agenda.
It should be noted that, due to Russia's restrictions on the import of agricultural products from Armenia, the authorities have developed a new program to support exporters selling their products in EU markets, which includes subsidies to cover transportation and other costs. As Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted during a campaign in the Gegharkunik region, every cloud has a silver lining. "The Armenian delegation is currently negotiating the redirection of exports to other markets. Our international partners have responded quickly to our concerns: the issue of flower exports and fruit and vegetable purchases will be resolved very soon. The point is that the volume of goods produced in the country is insignificant: enough for just one large European supermarket," Pashinyan said.
According to the Statistics Committee, Armenia's trade turnover with EU countries grew by 7.2% in 2025, reaching $2.5 billion (or 11.7% of total trade). Exports increased by 9% to $666.8 million, while imports grew by 6.5% to $1.8 billion. In Q1 2026, mutual trade with EU countries increased by 54.3%, reaching $763.2 million. Exports grew by 89.8% to $248.7 million, while imports increased by 41.5% to $514.5 million.
