ArmInfo.Latvia expresses its full solidarity with Armenia regarding its development and progress along the European path, as stated by Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics during a joint briefing with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan on May 7.
According to Rinkevics, Riga also highly values the progress made toward a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He emphasized that his visit is aimed at supporting regional stability and deepening bilateral relations, which are expected to reach a new level of practical engagement following a long hiatus in high-level official contacts.
The Latvian President noted the importance of not only political dialogue but also a sharp increase in economic cooperation between Riga and Yerevan. He highlighted promising sectors such as information technology, agriculture, logistics, tourism, and education, characterizing the current discussions as a roadmap toward a long-term partnership. "I believe that this visit and our discussions are paving the way for close cooperation," he stated, expressing hope for the revitalization of parliamentary friendship groups immediately following the conclusion of electoral processes in both countries.
President Rinkevics paid particular attention to Armenia's integration into European structures, congratulating the country on successfully hosting the European Political Community summit and the first EU-Armenia summit in Yerevan. He emphasized that Latvia resolutely welcomes Armenia's choice to pursue a European course and stands ready to facilitate the Republic's closer integration with the European Union.
Turning to the global agenda, he noted the destabilizing impact of the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, underscoring the necessity of resolving them within the framework of international law. President Rinkevics formally invited the President of Armenia to visit Latvia to open a new chapter in the relations between the two states.
