I am pleased to note that this is my colleague's first visit to Armenia in his capacity as president,t we have had the honor of hosting Mr. Rinkevics in Armenia when he served as the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs," stated the RA President Vahagn Khachaturyan, while welcoming his counterpart at the presidential palace.
The President emphasized that in recent years, both sides have taken active steps to develop a strong and dynamic political dialogue. "The Armenian-Latvian partnership is rooted in friendship, democratic values, and a shared commitment to ensuring a prosperous and more secure future for our peoples. Armenia and Latvia are like-minded countries regarding independence, sovereignty, the preservation of democratic values, and the promotion of peace; we are determined to further deepen cooperation in this area.
Today, we discussed various components of our bilateral relations in detail, with a particular focus on the development of trade and investment. We identified the high-tech sector as a promising and mutually beneficial area for cooperation, given Latvia's significant achievements in information technology, digitalization, innovation, and cybersecurity, as well as the successful track record of Armenian centers operating on the basis of innovative technologies and the major reforms implemented in both our public and private sectors. We underscored the need to implement more targeted cooperation programs in cybersecurity, air communication, education, and other areas of mutual interest.
In the context of developing sectoral cooperation, we attached great importance to expanding the legal and contractual framework, which currently includes more than two dozen documents. express my gratitude to President Rinkevics for the support provided by the Latvian government toward the development-oriented reforms being carried out in Armenia. We both place high value on the continuity of cooperation between Armenia and the Nordic-Baltic countries within the format established in 2024.
Within the scope of our collaboration, the dialogue within the framework of the Republic of Armenia- European Union partnership certainly holds special significance. First and foremost, I expressed my gratitude to the President of Latvia for his contribution to the development of cooperation between Armenia and the European Union. I pointed out the significance of Latvia's consistent support for programs of priority significance to Armenia, emphasizing their role in enhancing Armenia's resilience. I also highly commended Latvia's participation in the European Union Mission (EUMA) civil observation mission in Armenia. We hope that with Latvia's support, we will be able to advance our reform agenda, which serves as the cornerstone for realizing Armenia's aspirations for future membership in the European Union," said Vahagn Khachaturyan.
He added that regional and geopolitical issues, including the situation in the Middle East, were also addressed during the meeting. The President of Armenia briefed the President of Latvia on the process of normalizing relations with neighboring countries. "Armenia highly values Latvia's balanced approach to regional processes and its contribution to strengthening stability and security in the region," the President concluded.
