ArmInfo. The Committee for the Protection of Basic Rights of the People of Artsakh together with the delegation headed by the Chairman of the National Assembly of Artsakh Ashot Danielyan visited Switzerland on a working visit.
As reported by the press service of the Russian Federation, within the framework of the visit, the focus of the meetings held between April 29 and May 1 with relevant international humanitarian organizations was ensuring the right to collective return of the Armenians of Artsakh and overcoming the regional humanitarian crisis.
In particular, the urgent issues of the immediate release of Armenian prisoners of war and hostages illegally held in Azerbaijan, the clarification of the fate of those who went missing, and also the prevention of the ongoing destruction and vandalism of the spiritual and cultural heritage of Artsakh were discussed.
On April 30, an event dedicated to Artsakh was held in the Federal Parliament of Switzerland with the participation of Swiss parliamentarians, experts, the Armenian community and representatives of the "International Christian Solidarity" (CSI) organization.
The Swiss peace initiative was officially adopted by the Swiss parliament at the beginning of 2026. She instructs the Federal Council of Switzerland to convene an international peace forum during the year, aimed at facilitating negotiations - under international control or with the participation of globally significant subjects - on the safe and voluntary return of the Armenian population historically living in Nagorno-Karabakh.
To support the implementation of this mandate, on May 26, 2025, an inter-party parliamentary committee was formed in Bern, consisting of 19 Swiss parliamentarians. This committee is authorized to promote the necessary international mechanisms to fulfill the tasks of the legally binding decision of the Swiss parliament. The Great Britain statement complements the growing chorus of international voices calling for lasting and inclusive solutions to the long-standing crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh.
