ArmInfo. Hosting the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Armenia and Georgia in 2029 will be a major event for the country and for the world of sport. RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at a government meeting on April 30.
It should be noted that the decision to host the championship in the region was made by the International Federation of Football Associations. The Prime Minister congratulated Armenia and Georgia on this significant event, expressing gratitude to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze for their active and close cooperation on this matter.
Pashinyan noted that an organizing committee, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan, will be formed to ensure the successful holding of the championship. However, as the Prime Minister emphasized, the question of whether the organizing committee will be joint with the Georgian side or whether each country will resolve its own issues remains open. He called on the relevant authorities to hold talks with their Georgian partners on this matter.
In turn, Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan announced that approximately 100,000 fans are expected to attend the championship. The preparation program for the championship is still preliminary and subject to change, but one thing is certain: up to 20 matches will be held in Yerevan, and up to 10 matches in Vanadzor and Ijevan combined.
The Prime Minister noted that there are already companies with relevant experience ready to quickly build stadiums that meet international standards. However, as Pashinyan pointed out, an equally important task will be bringing the infrastructure, be it hotels, roads, etc., into proper condition.
