RA Central Electoral Commission  approves "Strong Armenia" as  official designation  for Karapetyan`s bloc  

ArmInfo.  The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Armenia has approved an application by Samvel Karapetyan's Strong Armenia party to amend its registered user  account name from the "Strong Armenia with Samvel Karapetyan" bloc to  simply the "Strong Armenia" bloc. The decision was confirmed in an  official statement by the CEC press service.

The statement notes that during its session on April 22, the CEC  reviewed a petition from Gohar Meloyan, the authorized representative  for the bloc. The petition sought clarification regarding the status  of the bloc's registration following the legislative amendments to  the Electoral Code enacted on April 7, 2026. 

The CEC clarified that the upcoming elections for the National  Assembly, scheduled for June 7, 2026, are governed by the  Constitutional Law "Electoral Code of the Republic of Armenia,"  including the recent amendments introduced by Constitutional Law  HO-95-N on April 7, 2026.

The Commission noted the following:  As of April 7, 2026, the CEC had  not formally reviewed the legal entity status of any party or  alliance, nor the specific naming of such alliances, as it does not  possess such authority during this phase of the electoral cycle.   Following a subsequent request from the political entity to rename  its digital user account for the formation of the bloc, the CEC  approved the change.  The official registered account name is now  designated as "Strong Armenia."

Recall, these developments follow the swift passage of amendments to  the Electoral Code on April 7.  Among other changes, the new  regulations prohibit the use of personal names within the official  titles of political blocs.  This legislative move occurred shortly  after Samvel Karapetyan's party announced on March 31 its intention  to form a coalition under the name "Strong Armenia with Samvel  Karapetyan."
